Miss Alex. I would like you to read this comment. Please, do not assume this is a "hate comment". I am here because I would like to give you a little message about your Gazelle OC. In fact, I still have the screenshot of the picture you deleted.
img15.hostingpics.net/pics/813…First, I would like to address that, I do believe you on the fact you said you were looking up Google Images and looked up Gazelle OCs in order to create your own character. I believe that while you were making her, you accidentally and subconsciously made her look like this other Gazelle Sonicsona (trust me, this also happens to me at times...). But here's the thing: people told you that she reminded of this other character. And did you do? You took those comments as hate and blocked and hid the comments. You know the saying "Only truth angers"? Well, seen how you reacted to those claims, it makes them thing that they are right and that you did stole the design. And deleting all of your deviations and saying you're going to leave DeviantART because of it
doesn't help in the slightest, it just reinforces it. You are currently throwing your reputation in the mud and acting like a naive brat.
I am going to assume you are a very young teen girl, around 13-14 and I can understand this kind of reaction. But you are on a social network dedicated to art. You are destined to get feedbacks, both good and bad. Don't throw a hissy fit when someone comes to you and say "this design isn't very good". Not everyone will like what you do. And the "if you don't like it, just leave" argument is rather childish, due to the fact that people are able to express their opinion however they want. It's freedom of speech, young lady... In fact, it's actually a good thing to get the negative opinion when it's under the form of constructive criticism because it makes you learn about what not to do when designing a character. I dare even say, you learn much better from your mistakes.
Now about your OC. I am going to give a little critique about her design. Well of course, the first thing is that she does kinda look like the other Gazelle Sonicsona. Kinda. Not as much as others say. So, let me give you some advices.
Considering I'm about to finish my preparation year of art college, I know a few things such as color theory and design tips.
- You could use a bold grayish blue instead of the red, combined with the dark brown it will really pop out, giving it the feeling of earth and ocean which is a natural color combination. I think you are looking to give your character "realistic colors" but then again, when have you seen a blue hedgehog in the real world? I think you can go a little wild on that, as long as it's pleasing to the eyes. You could go on color palette websites to search multiple palettes of brown and blue and choose the one that fits your character.
- You can give your character a different haircut (apparently it was inspired from Sally Acorn, yet she says she despises her a lot... ._. Well, I'm going to assume you don't like her personality-wise but you really like her design... Okay then), I'm thinking of a ponytail for that character.
- You could change the shape of the horns. In this case, the size and shape of these horns should reflect the personality of your character. Small and short if your character is shy, long and slightly twisted to show some wisdom or even have one of them broken to demonstrate a fiery personality and how she likes action.
I hope you take my comment and critique by heart. No one is here to make you leave DA, they are here to show you what you did was wrong and how you could improve. The reason why you are getting called out for your behavior is because you reacted in a way that makes you look guilty. Again, "only truth angers". You should really learn this sentence. I wish you to improve, both in your art and your behavior.
Sincerely, Pauline.
